Say what you will about Lady Gaga wanting to reinvent herself, and create illusions and dramatics for the purposes of selling an album, but her [latest album is a great album – although it’s not her strongest and “most fun” work”, it is still a good album in it own right. It is enjoyable, depressing, spiritual, deep, lost, confused, heartbroken and ——
A-YO
The worst song on the album is A-Yo. This is typical Lady Gaga style in trying to come up with a song that is dynamically catchy for the radio, and will lead to a pop hit. That is what she is performing it on every show while promoting the album – she did it on SNL, Japanese TV and the Tonight Show. Enough, it’s a horrible song with horrible lyrics. Any song that degenerates and reverts to repeating the lyrics “blow it in your face” three times, because she doesn’t know what else to talk about – needs to go. However, the rest of the album redeems this atrocious attempt a pop success.
Just Another Day
This song is very Elton John, and is the last song of the album. The reason I like it is because it’s the last song of such a heavy album. She tackles a lot on this album – heartbreak, rape, murder, cancer, lupus, death and a whole lot of other heavy stuff. So, at the end of the album, it’s great to hear a light song that reminds us all of hey – “it’s just another day”. There is some jumpy musical on this song, that makes not only the music great, but the lyrics equally enjoyable.

Diamond Heart
While musically awkward, this is a great lyrical song. The music is definitely unique and original (something people who hate Lady Gaga would hate to admit that she is original), but the musical accompaniment is very original. The lyrics are what make this song great, and you can actually hear it in the vocal accompaniment how much she loves these words and actually feels them. The song Diamond Heart is about a lot of things, but on the surface it’s about the loss of a special type of innocence that many young women experience.
A cruel king made me tough. Daddy’s girls never good enough. I’ll just keep go-going cause this dance, is on you.
Make you wonder how many women are out there go go dancing cause they just never felt good enough for daddy. I told you, this is dark.
Angel Down
This song is about Trayvon Martin and how his death sparked an outcry in this country. Say what you will about BLM and all the other people killed, but being found innocent for shooting someone who had no gum (regardless of his color) is a tragedy and a crime, and George Zimmerman got away with it. You can hear her outrage in this song. It was a tragedy.
Joanne
The title track, Joanne, is about her aunt Joanne who died from lupus when Joanne was 19, way before Lady Gaga was even born. Joanne became such a big figure in her life because her family always spoke about her, and remembered her, and there were pictures of her all over the house. She became a larger than life figure.
Million Reasons
On every album, Lady Gaga has one song where it just her on the piano, and on this album Million Reasons is this. It’s good catchy and boy is it relatable. If you are reading this article, i’m going to assume you have heard it about 1000 times, so I will not bore you with the details. But it is good.
Grigio Girls
At first I didn’t understand this song. I read the title and was confused. I didn’t know what a Grigio Girl was.
what is a grigio girl?
After listening a couple times, I realized what this song is about having a PINOT [grigio with your girlfriends and just discussing what you are going through in life. These are your grigio girls.
